Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break!
We are jumping right back in, with our first Social project!
Students have been asked several critical thinking questions throughout the term. A goal for the year is to develop and exhibit higher level thinking skills. This is a skill which takes time and practice to acquire.
Most recently, they have been given a task which requires them to take a stand on where or not real estate developers can remove the NATIONAL PARK status of one of the parks in Alberta. This assignment is yet another opportunity to develop those higher level thinking skills (particularly the ones outlined below).

Students chose either Banff National Park, Jasper National Park or Elk Island National Park. This will be their first presentation this year, where they will be asked to stand in front of the class and present their project. This seems like a daunting and scary task, but it is a valuable skill to have as they get older.
While this is an at home project, I will be guiding them step by step here at school. Their first step, tonight, is to decide how they want to present their project, either through a poster, power point, flyer, commercial etc. They should choose something they feel comfortable with. All the information and criteria can be found in their social duotang.
Tomorrow we will learn how and where to research!
