Our paper is dry! While I would try a few things differently next time, like trying to flatten it more, it was a fun experience and one that I'm sure students will remember for a while!
We attempted to make paper today! It was quite an experience... :)
Hopefully it dries well and looks and feels like paper on Monday! Yesterday was our last day of waste free lunches. I think we had the least amount of garbage yet! While students no longer have to bring a waste free lunch, I hope some of them will continue to think about the amount of garbage they bring in a small effort to help on a larger scale. Most of the garbage in the picture is paper towel garbage from washing hands or keenex. There is a very small amount of actual wrappers in this bag! Way to go grade 4!
Our Voyageur job advertisements are finished! We had a great time learning about voyageurs and the way of life during the time of the fur trade! Come in and have a peak at them on the wall!
Our Waste Free Lunches have been going great! We had 11 people today with absolutely no garbage in their lunch! Everyone else just had a few pieces. As you can see from our garbage, there are not a lot of wrappers, mostly Kleenex and paper towels! How can we reduce that? Students have been brainstorming ways and we are going to look closer at a few of them for a project to end our unit.
We finished off our time with poetry with an acrostic poem combining all the things we have learned about Alberta in Social Studies! They turned out great! Some are still finishing them, but they are up on the wall in our classroom. Come have a look!
Today was our first day of Waste Free Lunches. I was very impressed to see the number of students who had absolutely no garbage in their lunch! Way to go! Some of us had a little garbage, but we definitely had less than we did before! Today was a fun lunch day so we had a bit of popcorn garbage, but this brought up an interesting discussion about how we can still have fun lunch but be more environmentally friendly!
Today was another unusual day around here as we had quite the art project going on, resulting in a lot of paper towel garbage. This was however a great learning experience as it brought up the question: What can we do as an alternative to paper towels when doing art projects to reduce waste?
We were working very hard this morning on a surprise for you! You will have to wait a couple weeks before you get to see it!
We thought it would be a good idea, before we start measuring how little garbage we produce when bring a waste free lunch, to measure our current waste levels. This was today, just after snack! We had been at school for an hour and a half. Today was a fun lunch day, so we added a lot of garbage to what we had already started! We will document Monday as well and then our progress through our days of Waste Free Lunches!
