Miss Forte
Thank you for the thoughtful gifts. Doyle is truly blessed with some wonderful families and we all appreciate everything you do for your children. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with joy and happiness.
Miss Forte Thank you to everyone who came and watched our Christmas Concert yesterday! The students did great! So proud of them!
Our job letters are done! We spent the week finishing off our letters to the North Pole applying for various jobs to help Santa out. They are being sent today, and hopefully we will get a response next week!
Pop in and read some of the writing! I'd hire them all! ;) We started learning about division today, and how it relates to multiplication facts. If you know that 5x5=25 then you also know that 25÷5=5!
We started experimenting with blocks and dividing them into groups! Can you see the division sentence for these blocks? This week has been full of things to celebrate. Last Friday we learned about St Nicholas, and how he inspired today's Santa Claus. The real St. Nicholas would give gifts to children in need during his time. We reflected on the differences between the real St. Nicholas and Santa Claus, and St. Nicholas even left us all a treat in our shoes to find Monday morning! Monday we celebrate the Immaculate Conception, so we learned about Mary and how she was the only one to be born without Adam and Eve's original sin, she was born with Grace. She was meant to be Jesus' mother. Tuesday was the day that Mary first appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531 asking for a Church to be built on the spot where she appeared. The Bishop of Mexico City needed a sign, and he got that sign on today, December 12, when an image appeared in Juan Diego's cloak. We celebrate this day as Our Lady of Guadalupe Day. Tomorrow is the feast day of St Lucy, who lost her life because she was a Christian in a time when it was dangerous to be. She dedicated her life to Jesus and we celebrate her for her great sacrifice. Students have been enjoying learning about the different days during Advent, and their significance. We are working on our reflection journal, thinking about why these days are so important. The image from Juan Diego's cloak that still exists today in the Basilica built for Mary in mexico City.
Today we explored second class levers. A second class lever always has the load between the fulcrum and effort. Can you think of an example of a second class lever? Ask the students!
We have spent quite a bit of time in the computer lab this week working on typing our stories. Some of the students have chosen to make theirs quite involved and thus have not finished typing them yet. They have brought home their work so far on a memory stick today. Those students who didn't bring a memory stick have emailed it to themselves at their learn.cssd.ab.ca address. If you wouldn't mind giving them time to finish typing their story at home. The sooner they can bring it back the better, but Wednesday is the due date, as we need to print it and illustrate our books!
Thanks! We started learning about the different classes of levers today. So far we have experimented with the first class lever and how it makes work easier. Ask students to explain to you where the fulcrum should be in order to make lifting easier.
