Next week we are going to start a home reading program. The students will not be taking books from school, but rather be keeping track of the time they spend reading at home. 20 minutes of reading every day can make a huge difference in the success of students. What they read is up to them, it could be anything from a book to a newspaper, the important part is that they are reading.
If you have time, have them read for 10 minutes out loud to someone, a parent, an older sibling, or maybe even a grandparent. Reading out loud helps with their fluency. They can also read for 10 minutes by themselves to make up the 20 minutes. If there is time, asking them questions about what they have read goes a long way to making sure they are understanding what they are reading!
Happy reading!
