Yesterday we tested how to separate solids through magnets and water! First we tested water separation with sand and saw dust. Water is a good way to separate these two materials because saw dust is significantly lighter than sand, and so it floats!
We then tried to separate popcorn kernels, salt and iron filings. Because we had iron filings and we knew they were magnetic, we figured we could use a magnet to separate it from the other particles!
