We started learning the Ukulele this week! This has probably been the highlight of everyone's week. We learned two chords so far, C and F! We cna already play 4 or 5 songs with those two chords, although we are just working on one chord per song for now! :)
We have been discussing in Social how history has affected Canada's Identity. We started by talking about Confederation, and today we finally learned what the Famous Five were! We had guesses that they were famous people, or famous mountains or cities, but learned today that they were five important women who helped give women in Canada the right to vote! We will be learning more about them in the coming weeks!
This week we have started learning about Area and Perimeter and the difference between the two. Perimeter is the space around a shape, while area is the space within a shape. We explored today how different rectangles can have the same perimeters but different areas.
Wow! Another successful food drive this year! We collected 1913 kg of food, and St. Vincent collected 889 kg for a total of 2802 kg for the Veterans Food Bank! Thank you to parents for your support again this year! We are looking forward to the big job ahead of us on Monday at the Poppy Fund sorting through all of this food!
We have started learning about Confederation and how Canada came to be a country. We have learned that Sir. John A. Macdonald had the idea to unite the colonies in 1867 to create the "Dominion of Canada." Zac collects coins and bills and brought in a 25 cent bill for us to look at during the time of the Dominion of Canada! These bills were printed from about 1880-1935 and they were one of the first bills Canada ever printed as the rest of our money used to come over from Britain.
He also brought in a coin from when Newfoundland was not part of Canada and had its own currency! Very exciting things to see and bring history to life! Here are some fun websites to play around with that investigate the things we have been learning about in science!

We are finishing up our Chemistry unit with a write up of our experiment following all of the specific elements of a scientific investigation!
We are almost finished reading Maniac Magee! We are working on understanding the themes of the book, as well as the importance of certain quotations. We have also been looking at character traits of the various characters we meet in this novel!
In Language Arts we have been working on a project on Homelessness to go with Maniac Magee, although it also fits in nicely with Religion. In the novel at this point, Maniac is homeless, and we thought this was a great opportunity to talk about what that means and how it affects people living in our own city. Students are creating a project in partners using Google Slides, to address the ideas: what is homelessness, what is Calgary doing to help end homelessness, and what else could be done, either by the city, or by us. Students will be presenting these projects to the class the week of the 13th!
