We started our Religion program by looking at the image of the rock. Rocks are hard, solid, strong, heavy, can come in any shape or size and are unique. Then we read a couple stories out of our books in which rocks symbolized love, kindness, memories and friendships. We discussed that a rock is a symbol of a foundation of relationships, whether they be in our families, or the friendships in our classroom.
We talked also about how the rock is a symbol of the foundation of the church. Peter wasn't literally going to build a building on top of a rock, but he was going to build a community of people on the foundation of God.
Since we had talked so much about rocks, and what they represent for us and our classroom, we decided it would be a great idea to paint some, so they represent each person in the room. These rocks will be displayed all year, to remind us of the solid foundation we are building. They are drying over the weekend, but here is a small sample of what students were creating!
