In French we have been learning about school vocabulary. Things from pencils and notebooks, to places in the school like the gym and library. Starting Monday, students will now be asking to use the washroom or get a drink in French! See if they remember how to say it. :)
We have started learning about the people who first lived on Alberta's land, the First Nation's people. We have had interesting discussions about how they lived, and how they used nature, but only took what they needed, and used it all. Students were quite surprised about how First Nations people when they kill a buffalo, they use the entire thing!
In math, we are finishing up our Fractions and Decimals unit with adding decimals. Even though the process is the same as the addition and subtraction we did in September and October, it gets trickier with decimals as students need to make sure the decimals are always lined up.
We are having a fractions and decimals quiz next Wednesday. We continued on with our theme of realism in art with "paintings" (done in pastel), in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. I think there may be some Van Gogh's among us!
Last week we learned to draw with greater realism. Students were asked to draw a soccer ball without any instructions or guidance (on the left). Once they had completed that, they were walked through specific steps on how to draw a soccer ball and make it look real (on the right). What a difference a few shapes and lines can make!
The tree planter presentations were very well done last week! Students did a great job responding to questions after the presentation. The rubrics will be sent home tomorrow to be signed and returned.
